International Women's Day
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
International Women’sDay celebrates all women worldwide, shining a light on the women’s rights movement, and focusing on important issues such as gender equality, inclusion, and stopping abuse and violence against women. The purpose of International Women’s Day is to actively grow as a society and reach gender equity together.
When is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day is on Wednesday 8th March 2023 and is celebrated all around the world. It started in the early 1900s and has grown and gained momentum over the last 100 plus years.
International Women’s Day Colours
The colours representing International Women’s Day are purple, green and white. Some people preference purple as the main colour of this particular day, with green being added as the historical colour of the feminist movement. There is some controversy about the addition of the colour white, however it is said that it represents a sense of purity.
International Women’s Day Theme
Although every international women’s day is centred around women’s rights, inclusion and gender equality, each year holds its own specific overarching theme. The aim here is to come together as a society and focus on a specific part of the movement. This particular year’s theme is: #EmbraceEquity – acknowledging that not all people start in the same place in life and therefore may require varying resources to achieve equal opportunity.
International Women’s Day Symbol
The symbol for womenhas stereotypically been the Venus symbol. That is the symbol that looks like a circle with a cross under it. Historically, the Mimosa flower (not in season within Australia during March) has also been used as a symbol of the feminist movement. The International Women’s Day symbol has previously been this Venus symbol with a fist added to it, or in the shape of the number 8 to represent the date. The new logo, however, is a circle with a continuing arrow, a cross within the circle line, and a small gap.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION FLOWERS
Is there an amazing woman in your life that you want to show your appreciation to? Show your love this International Women’s Day by celebrating all the amazing women in your life. This could mean wives, girlfriends, mums, sisters, grandmothers, aunties, cousins, co-workers, teachers, neighbours and/or friends. Sometimes the most beautiful way to show someone you care and support them is by gifting them with some fresh flowers. A simple gift lets those around you know that you support equality and the women’s rights movement. That show of support can be what makes someone feel loved, supported and heard. It is that support that also helps better the world and society we live in.
Purple, Green and White Flowers
If you would like to give someone a gift as part of this important celebration and movement, we can put together flower arrangements and bouquets that perfectly suit the theme colours of International Women’s Day. That is flowers in purple, green and/or white, using wrapping paper or boxes of the same colours. These flowers make the perfect gift on a very special women’s day. We can even put together a women’s hamper of gifts that includes products such as scented candles, white wine, chocolates, balloons and plush animals. Whether it is a gift for your wife/partner, Mum, family member, friend or co-worker; these themed flowers will be sure to help them celebrate this momentous day and make them feel special. International Women’s Day themed flower boxes can also be a great piece of décor in your home or workplace throughout the month of March. This can be a great way to show your family and your co-workers support and get into the spirit of the movement. Even though International Women’s Day is on the 8th, the celebration and support doesn’t have to end there, buy the special women in your life flowers all throughout the week and keep them on display for the entire month. It is never too late or too early to buy a loved one flowers or make a special someone feel celebrated.
